NASA Softball Complex

Get ready for action at one of the finest complexes in the United States - the Nebraska Softball Association's Bill Smith Softball Complex in Hastings, Nebraska. This fantastic complex is comprised of seven softball fields - each with a 300 foot distance from home plate to the outfield fence.

The Ball Fields

The perfectly groomed fields allow for play in nearly any kind of weather, in fact, only torrential downpours halt play. The grass outfields slope down at a 1-degree angle to promote quick water runoff, and the infields are crowned in the middle to move water away from the base paths.

The infields are made of Agri-Lime, a crushed limestone substance that does not get muddy when wet. Outfield grass is cut to around 1-1/2 to 2 inches tall for tournament play, and the outfield fences are 8 feet high. Portable fencing allows for the fields to accommodate any division of championship play.

The "championship field" features a 27-foot inning-by-inning scoreboard with an integrated electronic message board.

Facilities

Sitting at the hub of complex is a three level building filled with amenities for our softballers and their families. The first floor has restrooms, concessions, and souvenirs, along with offices and maintenance storage rooms. An elevator is also available for all three floors.

The second floor features a large public lounge with a bar, a meeting room, game room with video games, umpire dressing rooms with showers, and a tournament official's lounge. Windows look out onto the fields and spectators can enter the bleachers from the second level.

The third level is an observation floor for scorekeepers, media, and public address announcers. Each field has its own public address system, and umpires on the fields can communicate with scorekeepers on the third level using an intercom system.
